A BEDROOM TRANSFORMATION

It's great to be back as it's been quite some time since my last post.  I took a little blog vacation and worked on getting some projects finished around the Parsonage.

I'm sure many of you have thought I'd total forgotten to show you transformations that have taken place since February when we moved into the Parsonage.   Today I'd like to share the smallest bedroom in the Parsonage.  When we lived here before, this room was our son's nursery.  It's hard to believe how time flies and he's now in college.

When we moved here, the room had peeling wallpaper on the lower half of the walls. I'm very thankful for a few ladies from the church who labored away and got it removed from the walls before our arrival.  This is how the room looked the day we moved in...

wall paper paste and old paint on the walls as well as the old window.
You may recall that all new windows were installed in the Parsonage.  This photo was taken before the new window was installed.

Once I had all the glue off the walls, I started to freshen up the room by adding new paint.  Since I want the colors to flow throughout the Parsonage, I've simply repeated many of the colors in the house.  I'm doing this by using accent walls, stripes, or even the back drop in the living-room book case.

We are planning to use this small room as our TV/sitting room.  I had almost  3/4 can of  Seascape Valspar paint ( purchased at Lowe's), so I decided to use it as an accent wall color to compliment the Portland Valspar paint left over from our living room on the other three walls.

Here's how the room looks now.

The room has hardwood floors, but they are in very bad shape.  Knowing this while we were still living in Washington, I went to Ross and purchased this rug for the room.  The colors and pattern work well in the room the pattern reminding me a bit of sea kelp.  The plan for this room is to incorporate a coastal/nautical theme using our own photos taken while living in the Pacific Northwest.

Here are two of the photos I've hung so far using garage sale frames, but we're planning on creating a photo wall.

For now, the television is sitting on top of a cabinet my husband made, but I have my eyes out for a dresser to makeover and turn into our tv cabinet.

Here's a view with the new window.  I chose a two inch wood blind for the window.  (Note the  little portable electric fireplace - I forgot to push it back so it's centered under the window for the photo).

That's it: our small but cozy little den/tv room!  It works well for just the two of us.

What do you think of the room?

  2. I love the blues, and the accent wall. Looks super cozy and restful!

My husband and I looked at a rental house today that's an old farmhouse. It's got lots of character, lots of nooks and crannies, and in serious need of some cleaning up and painting. If we get to move into it, I plan to stalk your blog for ideas to fix it up on a low budget! :)
