SPRING DECOR 2015

Hi everyone!  It's great to back after a few months break away from blogging.  As I told you in a previous post, I started a new job and it has taken up quite a bit of my time.  Now that I'm finished with orientation, I'm hoping to have more time for posts.

I love spring and the Easter Holiday.  Today I thought I would show you how I decorated our dining room for spring.

I'll begin by showing you what I placed on the top of our Hoosier cabinet.  I used things that I've had in the house from the past few years.  By using these items over you save a lot of money, and arranging it different from year to year gives the items a new look.

BRIGHTEN UP YOUR HOME FOR SPRING

Everyone is anxious for spring this year, myself included.  We actually had a few wonderful warm days last week, but a cold front moved in on Sunday and now we are back down in the 20's and 30 degree temperatures ....burr!  Despite the cold weather I've decided to brighten up the house a bit for spring.

I've started in the living room by taking out the flannel, wool and fur items and brought in some spring accents.  A wonderful way to add a touch of spring and freshness to a room can be done by adding soft fabrics and lighter delicate colors.  All of this can be done without spending a lot of money.  You can even rearrange the furniture for a new fresh look.

The first thing I did in the living room was to replace the snowflake/winter pillows with cozy soft spring pillows.

The nest pillow I made a few years ago was placed in the basket of blankets.

DIY SPRING ARTWORK

Can you believe it?  It's April and we have a major winter storm advisory for our area today and Friday.  They are even saying that we may receive up to an inch of snow a hour.  I'm so ready for spring to come.  With that in mind, I've started to add a few touches of spring in our home.

You may recall my spring artwork that I created a few years ago.  It's one of the most visited items on this blog.  It's seems a little crazy to me, the things that get visited the most often at Thrifty Parsonage Living are often items I've quickly put together on a whim.  The other visited often is my Epsom Salt Ornaments and Candle.

If you would like to see the full instructions on how I made this,

EASTER/SPRING DECOR

With Easter fast approaching, I thought I'd show you one more area where I've added some Spring/Easter decor.  I used items from around the house to create this vignette.  The idea came to me when I came across a toy from my childhood while working on cleaning up our storage room.  When I saw it, I thought this would be great to put out for spring. I don't believe in the Easter bunny, but I love baby bunnies and baby chicks.  Growing up on the farm, these little animals were always a sign of spring.

Here's the vignette that I place in our Hoosier cabinet.

Notice the spots on the cart due to the age of the toy.  I think it adds some unique character.  Adding a few eggs and grass dress it up just a bit more.

I also added the little silver cup that I used as a child.  The Peter Rabbit book holds many memories of reading it to our children when they were small.

A twenty-five cent garage sale bowl sits on the top shelf with grass and eggs inside to mimic a nest.

May you all have a great weekend and
Blessed Easter

SPRING IS JUST ARROUND THE CORNER

I've been seeing the signs of spring.  Yesterday I saw my first robin in the yard and my tulips and daffodils are sprouting out of the ground.  With these signs of nature coming to life, it has me thinking about spring projects.  Of course, there's always spring cleaning and house work, but I'm thinking of fun things like the spring wall art I made last year.  I've had so many comments on this DIY that I thought I'd share it with you again.  You can read the post on how I made this artwork by clicking on...

I've been dreaming up some new spring decor for my home!  How about you?  Do you have any great projects in the making?  I'd love to hear about them or see them.  Have a great day!

DIY ARTWORK

A few days ago, I promised to share
how I made my spring artwork.

If you didn't get to read the post, go here to read it.

This project was another of my "use what you have" projects.

Here's what I gathered from around the house to make it.

-5 X 7 Picture Frame
- Moss
- Eggs
-Scrapbook Card Stock Paper
- Hot Glue

I started by removing the glass from the frame, and replaced it with a piece of textured card stock paper (cut to 5 X 7 inches).
I then laid the moss out in the arrangement I wanted.

The moss was then hot glued to the card stock paper.

Last year I bought a bag of eggs at Easter.

I took 6 of them from the bag and added...

... sticker letters to spell - SPRING.

I then glued the eggs to the moss.

This was so easy to make costing very little because
I used what I had.

DIY APPLE BLOSSOM BRANCHES

Have you noticed all signs of spring popping up in blog land?
If you follow my blog you'll notice that
I've had a spring theme going on this week.

Here's the  project I've been working on the past few days.
Inspired by Pottery Barn
with their faux cherry blossoms displayed in a white pitcher vase.

Then I stumbled upon two blogs that made their own cherry and apple blossoms.

Mary's Meanderings ~apple blossoms
Susie Harris ~ cherry blossoms

They inspired me to make my own using their technique.

Here's mine in a spring displays.

As you can see in the photo below,
my display looked like it was missing something.

To fix this problem....

... I added books under the Ikea plant and  SPRING
art work to the wall.

 Come back and
I'll share with you in a later post how I made
the art work and seed pot.

Please come back for more!

Now come and join the fun!  Here are the parties I'm linking to.

I don't have a mantle to decorate, this is what I have instead and will link it to ~The Stories of A2Z Spring mantel linky:
