Thrifty Treasures

This past Saturday I was able to get out for a bit and do some thrift store and garage sale shopping. Here are a few of the treasures I found.

A brand new set of six vacuum canisters for $6... new price ~ $60!!!
(photo from amazon.com)
Here's a similar set at Amazon for $19.99 on sale (original price $25.99) ...making a set of six on sale for $40 plus shipping.

I'd just purchase a single canister on Thursday for $17 from Bed and Bath.

I was glad I hadn't used it and could return it to the store.

I think I got a pretty thrifty deal!!!

I also found this vintage ironing board for $3 at my local thrift store. They had a one day special ... all items in the store half price.

I love it because of its old chipped and worn wood.

Several years ago my grandmother gave me one very similar to this, but with our many moves back in seminary days. I ended up giving it to my sister. I always wished I'd kept it, but now I can have this one to remind me of grandma's.

Check back to my blog and see the great plans for this in my laundry room.

Last, but not least two vintage bowls.

Bridal Shower Decorating

Wedding Wednesday

Today, on Wedding Wednesday, I'd like to share with you decorating we did for my daughter's bridal shower. Her sister hosted the shower, and asked me to help with some things. It was an outdoor shower; and we incorporated this into the theme of the shower.

Let me start off by showing you the punch bowl...

...it was placed on an old potting station with a lemonade sign and votive candles.

Of course lemonade was served as the punch.

The gifts were place in an old wheelbarrow.

Lighting was added to the tree along with tulle.

Little lantern lights were hung from the trees.

The table was decorated with cherry blossoms.

You can see while being thrifty you can still have an elegant and fun bridal shower.

From Trash to Treasure

Today I'd like to show you something my grandmother rescued from her neighbor's trash a little over 25 years ago. It's a cute little fern stand that she brought to my husband for some help in repairing and refinishing. I wish I had a before photo of it. It had old chipped pink paint on it and the top shelf was cracked and broken beyond repair. My husband built a new top and stripped off all the old finish.

My grandmother displayed her beautiful fern plant on it for several years.
She put the restoration date on the underside along with my name, and said it would be mine after she died.
She passed away about 5 years ago,
so the fern stand now sits in my living room.
Here's a view of the under side of the shelf, you can see how old it was.

Here's what the stand looks like today!

Maybe I get my thrifty genes from my grandmother

Garage Sale Finds

I went to garage sale this past Saturday.
Here are a few of the things I found for only a few dollars. Two remnants of fabric for FREE and the other remnant ~ .25 cents, a Bible study book on women in the Bible ~ .50 cents and diapers for free.
I also got several small toys for .25 and .50 cents.
But my real prize of the day was the apron.

It was brand new with the price tag still on it...$12.99...but

I got it for $ 1.50!!! isn't it CUTE!

I love it when you find a new items for such great price.

Have you found any great deals at garage sales lately?

Give a New Look to Thrift Store Finds

You may remember that recently I purchased these jars
at a thrift store for .49 cents each.

Do you remember me telling you I wanted to spruce them up a bit?

I did this by bringing out my Cricut machine and vinyl, cutting numbers
and adhering them to the jars.

They now look like this...

While I had my machine out, I also gave my soap jar a face lift.

I found a use for my .99 cent thrift store basket by placing my fabric softener sheets in it.

Just a few simple changes adds the extra touches that keep your home pleasant and organized!
