Bride and Grooms Chair

Wedding Wednesday

Easy DIY bride and groom chair signs.

Wanting something to pretty up the bride and groom's chairs at our daughters' wedding, I created these chair signs using scrapbook paper, ribbon and rhinestone embellishments.

I think adding these little extra touches gives a touch of elegance to the room.
What do you think?

Garage Sale Finds

Recently, while my mom was at my home visiting, we went to garage sales together. It has become somewhat of a tradition when she visits to do this.

When I was a young girl, I would go with her and my two sisters. We'd go to a town about an hour from our home and make it a spring fling girls day out. It was so much fun to do this with her again and this time including my daughters. Here are a few of my finds from our morning of shopping.

The white teapot will work great
with my collection of white dishes.

I love using baskets for storing items and adding texture while decorating.

The Taste of Home recipe book will be great for those busy days when you want to just throw something in the slow cooker and have a meal ready by dinner time.

A Perfect Gift

Meet the pastor (my husband) who lives in the parsonage with me.
Here's a photo of the two of us at the coast a few years ago.
He knows me so well and....

knew I would love this for my birthday gift today!

I can't wait to try it out and

start some of the many projects I can do with it.

It sits on top of this old stand for now,

but I'm planning on giving it a makeover.

Thanks for the gift honey!

Create Your Own Wedding Candy Buffet

Wedding Wednesday

There are a variety of buffets you see at weddings; cake, cookie, candy and food buffets.

Choosing a candy buffet for our daughter's wedding added elegance, color and fun for the children.

We started out by collecting a variety of containers of different shapes, sizes and heights.

The containers were a collection we obtained

from garage sales and clearance items.

We incorporated candy that coordinated with the

wedding's color and brown.

A touch of elegance was added by placing some

tulle around the containers with strings of pearls.

The framed note on the table read....

Step up to the candy buffet,

It's a sweet addition to the day,

This is a treat for you,

Using the scoop and choose what you would like

but please be polite and leave some for others.

As you enjoy this bag of treats remember

Love is Sweet!

A green vase held the treat bags.

Long stem candle holders with candles

added romantic lighting.

To keep this cost efficient, candies were purchased

with seasonal sales and frozen until the wedding date.

The candy scoops were purchased 3 for $1 @ the dollar store.

Have a great day and happy wedding planning !

Master Bedroom Makeover Revealed

You've been waiting a long time for my master bedroom to be revealed. It took sometime to get the project finished, but the big delay was in getting photos. We've had dark or rainy days for what seems like forever! I've become inpatient to share the room with you, so please bear with me if the photos are a little dark, remember there is only one small window in the room.
Here are some of the before photos to remind you what we started with.
The room had been an office for my husband and wanting a bedroom that all our bedroom furniture would fit into we did a flip of rooms. You can read more about it

Forest green paint on bottom half of the room with a lighter green on the top half.

The room was very dark and dreary and measures 9 1/2' x 20' making it

difficult to arrange the furniture.

I didn't like the lined up furniture before.

Here's the work in progress...

....adding board and batten.

You can read the DIY board and batten here.

Painting... coat of primer and two coats of

...Valspar Snowblow White ~ semi gloss finish

... Valspar Seascape (CI 187) paint ~ satin finish.

New Drop Cloth Curtains that I made were added next...

you can read about how I made them here.

Bamboo blinds were added for some additional texture to the room.

Moving the furniture...
(We thought we couldn't put the bed on this wall because the nightstand and king size bed wouldn't fit in the narrow 9 1/2' space, but my husband came up with an idea to build new nightstands to fit the space).

Here's the bed in its new position.

My husband and I made the headboard.

The opposite side of the room.

See my Goodwill lamp sitting on the nightstand
along with my thrifty sand dollar artwork.

Finishing touches...

Photos we've taken were hung as artwork above the bed
along with spray painted Goodwill reading lamps.

A photo of my husband and myself at the beach

(a new 8 x 10 will replace the 5 x 7 after our vacation at the beach this summer)

framed by a large thrift store frame.

The shelf I already had and I added a candle and sign purchased @ TJ Maxx.

I made the hanging ornaments from shells and starfish, along with my Knockoff Pottery Barn mason jar candle.

This sign purchased at TJ Maxx was added on the opposite wall .

Candle light was added to the dresser using blue mason jars.

The Ikea mirrors I made over and ...

...Jewelry hanger I did a makeover.

A vintage step ladder for a side table.

My husband is going to make side tables,
but I've had so many of you telling me to keep the ladder so for now it's staying.

My vintage alarm clock purchased at a garage sale.

I added a new quilt at the end of the bed that I found @ Goodwill for $14.98 (don't worry I did wash it) and new tan pillows I sewed. The blue pillow was purchased @ TJMaxx along with new white pillow covers.

15 years ago my husband lovingly hand made all the furniture in this room with the exception of the headboard.

We made the headboard together 3 years ago when we upgraded from a queen bed to a king. I'll tell you how we made it in a future post.

This basket is used for our laundry and a framed photo I took of flip flops will sit on a nightstand.

We're loving our new made over room.

Where I Create

I'd like to share with you my space that I create in.
I'm joing the "Where I create II Party" @ My Desert Cottage.

I enjoy sewing, scrapbooking, and craft projects for my home and gifts.

I've always wanted a special place or room to do this other than my kitchen table. This past year, after two of our daughters got married, a bedroom was available for this use. It's a small room of 10' x 10', but it works great for me.

Using vinyl lettering, I added words to the wall
...Create, Scrap and Inspire...

all things I do in this room.

I enjoy working at my new desk; and
I've also created accessories to accent the room...
~a note board
~ tassels for a lamp
~ a framed scrapbook page of me and my sisters

~tape case made into ink pad holder
~ CD case that holds unmounted stamps in cd cases

Photos of our 6 children @ age 1 were framed and added to the wall art.
My scrapbook supplies are in these cabinets

with magazines stored on the top for easy access.

I refinished Grandma's sewing cabinet which houses my
sewing machine with the sewing machine cover that I made a few months ago.

I would love to have new crisp white wood work and new doors in this room...but
remember I live in a parsonage and have limitations on what I can do.
Have a great weekend!
